General Information on Performances

Curricular Goals...

There are numerous ways the Little Theatre of the Deaf workshops, performances, and study guide work hand in hand with the school and curricular/classroom goals, such as:

For the Student:

  • Furthering learning of diversity, sensitivity as well as additional perspectives on a different American culture
  • Increase cultural awareness, pride and respect
  • Logic Enhance organization and sequencing in story development
  • Curriculum disciplines work together. Application of activity approaches to other curriculum disciplines such as social studies, history, math, natural science, etc.
  • Idiom and language study increase knowledge of language richness. Use of imagination in language choices and application reinforced
  • Revision, editing, practices reinforced as it applies to all the arts as well as all disciplines
  • Process that engages the student helping develop self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation
  • Communication of thoughts and feelings utilizing a variety of modes, giving a vastly more powerful repertoire of self-expression
  • Varied communication skills employed, verbal and non-verbal
  • Deduction, from what is learned to what will be explored.
  • Enhancing organization and sequencing in story development. Logic
  • Intrinsic value, worth learning for its own sake, providing benefits not available through any other means
  • Perceiving, interpreting, understanding, and evaluating help students develop multiple capabilities for understanding

For the Group:

  • Group interaction opportunity for group interaction, cooperation and group problem solving, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating
  • Learn additional teamwork behaviors.
  • Self-esteem as part of a group, and as an individual, application of social morals and behavior
  • Respect and sensitivity for other students, their ideas, and their belongings
  • Pride and accomplishment in contributing in a group, empowerment
