The National Theatre of the Deaf (NTD) Board is thrilled to announce the selection of the NTD Playwright Convening Director, Patty Liang! She is an experienced theatre artist and executive from Seattle, Washington. We look forward to the creation of new, original Deaf-written productions as a result of her leadership of the convening.

The NTD TIP Director position was posted on February 27, 2020. After an extensive interview and screening process on March 29, 2020 the Board ratified its selection of Patty Liang as the 2020 NTD TIP Director.

Patty Liang is the Executive Director of Deaf Spotlight, which oversees artistic and cultural programming to support Deaf artists and their work. Throughout her career, Patty has pursued opportunities that encourage Deaf community to embrace and celebrate the arts.

She has a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Washington, and a MA in Nonprofit Management for the Arts from New York University. She believes that everyone has the ability to create and express their story through the arts. She helped plan the Howlround Convening 2019: Theatre Action Planning Session as a core member along with other Theater makers: DJ Kurs (Deaf West Theatre), Tyrone Giordano (NTD), Rachel Grossman (dog and pony dc), Ethan Sinnot (Gallaudet University Theatre), and Alexandria Wailes (actress/director). What she learned from Howlround, she will bring that to this Convening! She is excited to work with NTD to lead the Playwright Convening 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Patty is working on revising the NTD Playwright Convening from the original in-person event to an online format which will take place during the summer of 2020. Please watch for social media updates about the new plan from Patty soon!
